Port City funds dansala in Kepungoda
A two-day rice and curry dansala was held in the Negombo area, on Vesak day and the following day by the Port City Colombo-funded Fishermen’s Livelihood Support Society Ltd. (FLSSL), in collaboration with the Kepungoda St. Fatima’s Fisherwomen’s Committee.
The dansala was the first community project jointly undertaken by these two associations, and funding for it was provided by the project company. The organisers say they gave lunch and dinner to more than 1,500 people during those days.
Middeniye Dhammasheeli Thero of the Kiribathgoda Shri Sudarshanarama Viharaya, along with Fr. Bernard Wilathgamuwa, Parish Priest of St. Anthony’s Church Kepungoda, attended the opening of the dansala. They commended the efforts of the different communities that took part in this initiative.
Also participating in the event were, G. Piyasena, Former Secretary of the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Ministry and President of the Fishermen’s Livelihood Support Society (FLSS), Ranjan Fonseka, Administrative Manager of FLSSL, H.S.G Fernando, Operations Manager of FLSSL, Kassapa Senarath, Head of Public Relations for Port City Colombo, Calison Jayakody, member of Negombo Municipal Council, Susantha Jayasuriya, Fisheries Inspector and members of the St. Fatima Fisherwomen’s Committee.
